collect 1 C-1Our Our next arrowhead show will be held on May 1, 2010 at the American Legion post, 1.5 miles south of Donalsonville Ga on highway 39s. The Kolomoki Society Inc does lean more to collectors displaying, buying and selling with one another. Everything at the show will be free to members. Admission free to everyone, tables, food and drinks, all free for members. We usually have a great fish fry, and all tables full or fine artifacts for viewing. At over six inches long, I believe this to be a first stage Cobbs blade.
Early Archaic cultural period in Houston Co. Al.

collect 6 C-6 <> Fl Hamilton points at 11 and 4 o'clock, the rest are Thonotosassa points.

Two fine Thonotosassa Points found in Hillsborough Co. Fl. Both are made of chert and exhibit a fine tip common for the type.

collect 10 C-10
Thonotosassa point made of heat altered miocene coral. It was found in a middle archaic site in Pasco Co. Fl. 3400 BC, this is the typical shape for the type. Exhausted forms are usually mistaken for the Putnam type.

And a stemmed beveled Bolen from Taylor Co. Fl.

collect 15 C-15<>Handfull of Florida Bolen points, Early Archaic 7300 BC or so

Hernando
500 B.C.-200 A.D.
A woodland point type with several variations of basal notching. Usually small, thin and well made. Hernandos can be serrated. The unnotched examples are Florida Safety Harbor points.

collect 17 For point typology I recommend these books for Florida, Alabama and South Georgia
In my opinion other books of the region may be more attractive, but they can also be confusing and inaccurate.

collect 18 C-18<>12 x 18 frame of SW Georgia points from various cultural periods.

collect 19 C-19br>Clay, Late Archaic, 2000 B.C.-and later.
Large and small examples can be found from Mid Florida north into Ga, and Alabama. Clay points have diagonal squared barbs as seen in the example. Clay points are associated with late Savannah river form and Seminole points.

Culbreath
Late Archaic, 3000-1000 B.C.
A medium to large size point that's basal notched. Barbs can be short or long. The key feature is the stem, parallel or contracting, never expanding. Found associated with Citrus, Lafayette, Broward and Ocala points.

collect 21 C-21< >Hillsborough Points, Middle Archaic 3400 B.C.
Hillsborough points have sweeping sharp barbs and are usually very well made. Stems can be pointed, rounded or blunted.Fl collectors of the early 1960's called em Batwings.

Newnans are barbed with contracting squared stems as you see in the examples. Associated with other Middle Archaic types.

Marion
Middle Archaic
These three are made of coral and show resharpening and use. Marion points can be found larger, smaller, wide or narrow. Key to identifying are the stem and shoulders. One of the four subtypes found in the "Florida Archaic Stemmed" group

Levy
Middle Archaic
A classic coral example. One of the four subtypes found in the "Florida Archaic Stemmed" group

collect 25 C-25< >Florida Morrow Mountain, Middle Archaic, 3400 B.C.
May not be related to morrow mountain types in other regions. Fl Morrow Mountain blades are usually large with the type base you see here.

Savannah River
Middle to Late Archaic 3-2000 B.C.
savannah River points are found from mid Florida and northward. Savannah River points eventually transend into Seminole and Clay point forms.

Sumter, Early phase of the Early Archaic. 5-6000 B.C.
Sumpter points are usually made of raw material, are thick and will exhibit serrations on the distal end. Weak shoulders and thinned stems.

Hardee
Middle Archaic 3400 B.C.
Hardee points have various basal variations, stems can be round, squared or expanded. Hardee points are normally alternately beveled on the right side, holding with stem down, point up. Found associated with Hillsborough and other Middle Archaic points.

Alachua
Middle Archaic, 3400 BC
Usually with horizonal shoulders, key is the stem. More examples coming. One of the four subtypes found in the "Florida Archaic Stemmed" group
